Nothing Matters Tour

Blackbear’s performance at Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston for his “nothing matters tour” was filled with extreme excitement from beginning to end. As Heart Attack Man and Mod Sun opened the show, the audience buzzed with energy and anticipation as they flooded into the open-air venue.

First to open the show was Heart Attack Man, consisting of Eric Egan (vocals), Adam Paduch (drums), Ty Sickels (guitar), Logan McNeal (bass), and Jaykob Matteo touring with the band on guitar. Heart Attack Man got the crowd engaged as they opened their set with the first song off their new Thoughtz & Prayerz EP, “Puke.” They then dedicated their next song “Out for Blood” to those in the audience who had listened to them before. Eric Egan’s high energy and movement across the entire stage never faltered during their performance. Egan asked who was excited to see Blackbear before the band’s 3rd song “Cut My Losses,” and the crowd went wild. The enthusiastic openers ended their set with one of their most popular songs, “Leap Year.”

Next up was Blackbear’s very good friend Mod Sun. The lights dimmed and the crowd cheered as he entered the stage. Mod Sun’s set started with one of his most well-known songs, “Karma.” Taking a moment with the crowd, he gave a very heartfelt speech about struggles with anxiety and depression. Later in his set, Mod Sun also discussed his journey with sobriety and his friendship with Blackbear. After his speech, Mod Sun performed his latest single “Battle Scars” while everyone in the crowd directed their flashlights toward him. Finally, he ended the set with his song “Flames,” which features his fiancée Avril Lavigne.

Now, it was time for Blackbear to perform. His show opens with a static-looking screen accompanied by about a 30-second recorded monologue. Then, his first song to perform, “me & ur ghost,” began as he entered the stage and the audience cheered and roared. Members in the crowd were jumping around and singing along as Blackbear performed some of his top songs, such as “chateau,” “idfc,” and “do re mi.” Before signing “dirty laundry,” Blackbear shared that he was over 50 days sober and very appreciative of his fans for helping him; he expressed how nice it was to actually be present at his shows and interact with the crowd. Towards the end of his set, Blackbear did a medley of several songs he’s featured on, which include “IDGAF,” “Love It When You Hate Me,” “make up sex,” “Monsters,” and “my ex’s best friend.” The high-energy show came to an end with his performance of his most popular song, “hot girl bummer.” Blackbear did a call-and-response with the audience, with him yelling “f*ck” and the audience screaming back “you.” Although the concert had ended, audience members loved the show so much that they stayed for minutes after yelling for Blackbear to come back for an encore. Overall, the “nothing matters tour” is filled with enthusiastic performers and is a very enjoyable time for anyone attending.
