JAWNY + WALLICE ROCK THE PARADISE

Friday night was a night to remember at Paradise Rock Club. A sold out show featuring Wallice and JAWNY took over Boston, with the line rounding the corner long before doors opened at 7. However, the folks at PRC quickly got everyone inside, away from the cold, and the floor filled up quickly. Though it wasn’t her headline tour, Wallice pulled a large crowd for the 8pm start time and her friends were ready to sing along as soon as they could. The lights go down and a roar of cheers resulted in Wallice stepping onto the stage, opening up the night with “90’s American Superstar”, the title song from her 2022 EP. One particular fan was front row, ready with every lyric from Wallice’s discography - the artist smiled every time the fan’s voice was heard breaking out into the chorus of the opening number. In the middle of her set, after recognizing her bandmates, Wallice introduced a new song that is to be released in early April, “Best Friend”. Fitting perfectly into the rest of her set, even I quickly noted the release date - it will definitely be part of a playlist on my Spotify. Wrapping up the set with fan-favorite “23”, the band said their goodbyes and said that the crowd was in for a treat with the upcoming set.

After much anticipation, JAWNY’s band walks into the PRC lights. After a brief voiceover introduction, the man himself steps out and performs “intro” to every person’s excitement. An incredible start to the show, conducting the right energy into a sold out venue. “strawberry chainsaw” was quick to follow, and it was clear that there was no intention of slowing down until the venue kicked everyone out. The third or fourth song ended, and the crowd could not stop cheering and yelling about how much they adore the artist, forcing the artist to take a step back from the microphone and look around, embracing the love the city of Boston has for him and his art. It was then that JAWNY declared that he would be performing the longest set of the whole tour here, which prompted an even longer ovation. JAWNY’s performance was the “Trigger of Love” for new fans, like myself, and a reinforcement for Day 1s that danced and jumped to the longest set of his North American Tour 2023.
