The Gaslight Anthem: History Books Tour

The Gaslight Anthem delivered an electrifying performance at the MGM Music Hall @ Fenway on August 18, 2024, proving once again why they’re one of the most revered bands in the modern rock landscape. With a setlist that spanned their entire career and the support of the dynamic opening acts Joyce Manor and Pinkshift, the evening was a potent reminder of the power and allure of live music.

Pinkshift kicked off the night with their high-energy set, setting the tone for an evening of raw, unapologetic rock. Their blend of punk and alternative rock resonated through the venue, with songs like "Nothing Less" and "I’m Not Down" inciting the first waves of crowd surfing and mosh pits. The trio’s infectious enthusiasm and tight performance showcased their potential and left the audience eager for more.

Following Pinkshift, Joyce Manor took the stage with their signature blend of emo and punk. Their set was a masterclass in emotional intensity and melodic prowess. Opening with “Constant Headache,” they immediately drew the crowd in with their heartfelt lyrics and anthemic choruses. Tracks like “Model Home” and “Fake I.D.” saw the audience singing along in unison, the room brimming with nostalgia and youthful energy. Joyce Manor’s ability to balance angst with melody made their performance a standout, drawing a rapturous response from the packed house.

When The Gaslight Anthem finally took the stage, the energy in the MGM Music Hall @ Fenway reached a fever pitch. Frontman Brian Fallon, with his distinctive gravelly voice and charismatic presence, led the band through a setlist that deftly wove together fan favorites and new material. Kicking off with the raucous “45” from their 2008 breakthrough album, the band set a high bar for the evening.

The Gaslight Anthem’s performance was marked by an impressive sense of camaraderie and emotional depth. Songs like “The ’59 Sound” and “Here’s Looking at You, Kid” were delivered with a raw intensity that felt both personal and universal. Fallon’s anecdotes between songs added a layer of intimacy to the show, making the vast venue feel like a much smaller, more personal space.

As the night progressed, The Gaslight Anthem showcased their versatility, seamlessly shifting from the anthemic “American Slang” to the hauntingly beautiful “Great Expectations.” The band’s ability to blend storytelling with powerful rock dynamics kept the audience on their toes, each song met with cheers and sing-alongs.

The encore was a fitting climax to an exceptional night. The band returned to the stage to perform a poignant rendition of “Stay Lucky” followed by a spirited version of “We Came to Dance,” which had the crowd on their feet, clapping and singing along with abandon. As the final notes faded away, it was clear that The Gaslight Anthem had once again cemented their place as one of rock’s most compelling live acts.
